Summer Essentials Sew-Along: The Sundress 1

By Sølvi Elise | 01/07/2010
Simplicity 2362

Traditionally, I´ve been a skirt-sewing gal. I have made a million skirts, and when Me-Made-May came around I found that I really didn´t have much else, so now I´m sewing up mostly tops and dresses (although I can´t resist Beignet, and it is already cut…). The latest result of this is Simplicity 2362, or the Emerald Sundress, as I like to call it. This pattern was fairly easy to read, but as the last dress project was Ceylon – a dream to sew up – the anticlimax that came when sewing up this was bound to happen. I made view E of this. From the back view of this dress,…

Slip pattern Alt om HĂĽndarbeide

Yesterday, we went to two of my favorite stores, IKEA and Stoff & Stil. While IKEA needs no further presentation, I might explain that Stoff & Stil is one of the largest fabric stores in Scandinavia and I usually go there once a year (so this is a major event as you all can understand). Among others I bought this fabric: It´s a sandwashed silk and I bought a meter to make this one: The pattern is from a 1980 issue of the Norwegian magazine Alt om HĂĽndarbeide. Ceylon

So, I took some time yesterday and finished Ceylon. It was so much fun sewing this! I love how everything just came together with this one, the instructions were easy to follow, and even though there are quite a bit of parts and pieces and details with this, I never felt lost thanks to the great instructions. Not too small, not too big, and with just the right look! If (or more likely when) I´m making this again, I will…

Tips for the nautical obsessed: Spoonflower

By Sølvi Elise | 25/06/2010

Okidoki, so I know there is a nautical trend going on right now, and for those who are above average interested in this, I really would like to tip you about the awesome nautical theme fabric contest that is going on over at Spoonflower. For those of you who are not familiar with Spoonflower, it´s a place where you can upload your own pattern design and get them printed onto fabric. Pretty cool ´ay? You can also browse around over there buying other peoples amazing prints. I love that place. This is the only print I have made and used so far, it´s a pollen grain, I used…

Buttons

By Sølvi Elise | 21/06/2010

I´ve been somewhat preoccupied with buttons these last couple of week, and this activity didn’t diminish when I searched through my mothers button collection while visiting. These blue buttons are in competition with each other. I cant deside which one of them I want to use for a summer blouse in the SESA… These white made me nostalgic, because I loooved both of these types when I was little and played with the buttons. They still look darn cute, dont you think?

Sølvi Elise is wearing a selfmade shirt and heavy glasses

Hi there! I´m Sølvi Elise. Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. This is a space where I share my craft projects  and thoughts and ideas concerning handmade in a consumerist world.

I live in Oslo, Norway where I use my spare time stitching up my own wardrobe. So far, I´d say that 80 % of my closet is filled with me-mades. I also have an interest in historical sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, leatherwork, tablet weaving, rigid heddle loom- weaving, cocktails, jewelry making, makramÊ, shoe making, drawing, paper craft, machine knitting and generally any craft that looks like fun.
