Hepburn/Hepburn: The Kate Trousers!

By Sølvi Elise | 28/10/2010
Burda 127- 07-2010

Can you believe it? I have finally finished a Hepburn/Hepburn- garment! I finished the last couple of stitches on my Katharene Hepburn inspired pants today, and managed to take some half-decent pics. It´s so hard to take photos in autumn. There is way too much weather all the time! Anyways. These trousers are made from a light wool fabric I recently bought. Originally, these pants were supposed to be blue, but I had accidentally bought too little fabric, and so I decided on this nice plaid one instead. The pattern is from Burda Magazine. It´s pattern number 127, and is especially designed for ladies taller than 176 cm. And that includes me. Hurray!…

Saturday night shopping

By Sølvi Elise | 23/10/2010

So, it´s Saturday night and I decided not to go to a party, as I have a good deal of stuff to do this weekend.  To reward myself of being such a responsible gal, I did some vintage pattern bidding (and winning) at Tradera.com in stead. I did pretty good, I think – here´s what I got a hold of: A good looking 60s shift dress, with cool construction BEGGING for some color block action. (What about a black and white version in some gorgeous lightweight wool?) And, can you believe it – it´s got pockets too! This was too good to be true, and with the help…

Books!

By Sølvi Elise | 18/10/2010

After tackling the wrap dress, realizing I should have done a FBA and reading about a lot of great literature about sewing I decided to indulge in a shopping splurge at Amazon.co.uk today. To give you a reason for this book- buying craze, I´ll show you a pic of my library of craft books: You see? (or you´ll probably not see, as it´s dark and mostly in Swedish or Norwegian) 99 percent of the books are about quilting, knitting, crochet or weaving. The only sewing related book I have, is actually the book Mønsterforming, and that book is basically a pattern construction reference guide. I ordered no less than six (6!) sewing related…

My grand plan: The floral skirt

By Sølvi Elise | 15/10/2010
Quarter circle skirt

Windy outside today, perhaps? Back in May, when I bought the fabric to the Rosie dress, I noticed that the floral print was available in other colors as well. Back then I thought it was a bit over the top to buy it, and let it go. The fabric used on the Rosie dress Turns out, it wasn´t over the top. In September, when shopping for something completely different, the fabric was still there. So I couldn´t resist it, and I picked up 1,5 meters of it. This time with a navy background. I really love this print. Sigh… The fabric used on the floral skirt This time…

On my sewing table: 1970s wrap dress

By Sølvi Elise | 11/10/2010

I have just posted a question on Sew Retro about this dress I´m working on, and I´ll just post the whole thing here as well. Hope someone can help me! 🙂 Hello everyone! I am currently working on a wrap-around dress from the 70s (don´t you just love the colors and the accessorizing of the original design drawing?). I have finished everything, but I find that the neckline is a tad too revealing for me to wear without a top underneath. I would love to wear this as an evening dress without feeling like I constantly have to pull and adjust the top to make it stay put.…

Hi there! I´m Sølvi Elise. Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. This is a space where I share my craft projects  and thoughts and ideas concerning handmade in a consumerist world.

I live in Oslo, Norway where I use my spare time stitching up my own wardrobe. So far, I´d say that 80 % of my closet is filled with me-mades. I also have an interest in historical sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, leatherwork, tablet weaving, rigid heddle loom- weaving, cocktails, jewelry making, makramÊ, shoe making, drawing, paper craft, machine knitting and generally any craft that looks like fun.
