There is progress! I followed some of the great advice I got on my previous post (thanks ladies!) and now I have two full bags of clothes ready to be shipped away to new, more deserving owners. Oh joy! There is space in my closet again! I also came up with an idea to how for get more stuff sorted out. For the coming months, I will try not to repeat outfits s much as possible, and see how far I come. If there still are some items that haven´t been worn (except for my ball gown, national costume and other odd bits and pieces) they´ll have to…
Read MoreAlthough I have had this blog since 2005, only the last 5 or so months have been really productive. It all came down to my challenge 2010, it´s simple: I said to myself in january this year;  that I shall restrain myself from buying any new clothes.  After making this decision, I discovered the fantastic online sewing community and I got even more inspired. Now, with only three months left of 2010, I thought I´d write down some thoughts on how I am doing. Keeping up with no spending. For my challenge, I allowed myself to buy tights, underwear etc., and to get stuff in thrift stores if I wanted…
Read MoreFor SSS my pledge looked like this: “I, Sølvi of delfinelise, sign up as a participant of Self-Stitched-September. I endeavor to wear only handmade and refashioned of clothing, except underwear, sportswear, shoes and rainwear, every day for the duration of September 2010.” Did I succeed in keeping my pledge? Well, more or less I did, with one exception that I will come back to later. I managed to wear only self-stitched and refashioned items for most of the month. Did you keep your pledge, or did you have to modify it? What I found to be the hardest part of all of this was to keep warm. I counted on finishing a jacket for…
Read MoreI was going through my google reader yesterday, and to my delight Sarah of Rhinestones and Telephones has nominated me for the Beautiful Blogger Award. Thanks Sarah! The rules are that I must share with you ten things that you didn´t know about me. Sooo… I must define “you” not to include family and friends, as there would be little left to share;-). I am a weaver in addition to being a seamstress. I weave with tablets/cards. Tablet weaving is an ancient form of craft, it is known from all over the world, and it is used for making strong and beautiful ribbons and trims that embelish and…
Read MoreDay 17 When I joined Me-Made May back in April, I didn´t have a clue about how it was going to change my whole sewing experience. I had no idea that there were so many fantastic people out  there, sewing beautiful and creative stuff, writing interesting and thought provoking blogs, and supporting each other in a way that is just amazing! Day 8 Some bloggers are newbies, and are sewing up some of their first garments, others have been sewing since they were little, and have no trouble pulling together outfits for Self- Stitched September. Day 10 For MMM I chose the light version, as I didnt think I had enough stuff…

Hi there! I´m Sølvi Elise. Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. This is a space where I share my craft projects and thoughts and ideas concerning handmade in a consumerist world.
I live in Oslo, Norway where I use my spare time stitching up my own wardrobe. So far, I´d say that 80 % of my closet is filled with me-mades. I also have an interest in historical sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, leatherwork, tablet weaving, rigid heddle loom- weaving, cocktails, jewelry making, makramÊ, shoe making, drawing, paper craft, machine knitting and generally any craft that looks like fun.
