Summer Essentials Sew Along: an ode to Colette Patterns

By Sølvi Elise | 17/06/2010

I know I´m not the only Colette Patterns enthusiast out there, but may I say: I adore Colette Patterns. Sewing up an item using a Colette Pattern is like reading a good book. You never want it to end. And even though I might stumble on the way, the well written and detailed instructions pick me up time after time. So far I´ve stiched together a Parfait, a Sencha and half a Ceylon, and I wish there were a million other patterns too (I have a Beignet waiting to be sewn, and of course autumn/winter versions of the others as well). Seriously, I catch myself in prolonging the sewing…

And we´re back! with eight questions

By Sølvi Elise | 15/06/2010

I´ve been away on a work trip for the weekend,  had to work the whole weekend through, but now things are back to normal. As I went abroad for this trip, I didn´t have the chance to check my e-mail, and when I came back I noticed that Ali, the woman behind the SESA had tagged me in a game of eight questions, fun! So here it goes: 1. What song never fails to move you? As I am a musicologist and vocal coach music plays such a big role in my life that just to mention one is impossible. So I allow myself some songs from different…

Summer Essentials Sew-Along: Clam Diggers & Co.

By Sølvi Elise | 09/06/2010

There´s been a change of plans, or really, there´s been an addition to the SESA. As I started looking for a great pattern for the jacket, the thought of a coordinated suit occurred to me. Now, this is something I have never owned. A suit seems very adult to me, but I will turn thirty next year, so an adult look is perhaps not totally inappropriate? I found the perfect jacket, and the perfect pants, so I stitched these up today (the pants, I mean). They are made of IKEA linen (I can´t really recommend using this fabric as it is a bit itchy) and  it is a Burda Magazine pattern. Very easy…

Summer Essentials Sew-Along: Pool pretty

By Sølvi Elise | 08/06/2010

Sooo, I´m thinking about making a one-piece. Not only sew it, but construct it from the instructions from patternschool.  I want to make this groovy looking halterneck suit, AND I found the most perfect fabric at Beyond Retro in Stockholm. I only hope that the fabric I found is big enough for the pattern. Rye and flower print.

My new relationship.

Knitted dress Garnstudio

Woohoo! I´ve finished my knitted/crocheted dress! Last autumn I started a new relationship. We were wise and took things quite slow during the first couple of months, but as spring came around, we became more serious, and I can now make it official; we are going steady, knitting and I. For a long time I was very skeptical towards this particular needlework (as many hardcore crocheters are….), but as time went, my appreciation for the speed and the possibilities that knitting gives me grew, and now I can´t wait to start my next project, in fact I have already started it, you can check out my progress over at…

Sølvi Elise is wearing a selfmade shirt and heavy glasses

Hi there! I´m Sølvi Elise. Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. This is a space where I share my craft projects  and thoughts and ideas concerning handmade in a consumerist world.

I live in Oslo, Norway where I use my spare time stitching up my own wardrobe. So far, I´d say that 80 % of my closet is filled with me-mades. I also have an interest in historical sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, leatherwork, tablet weaving, rigid heddle loom- weaving, cocktails, jewelry making, makramÊ, shoe making, drawing, paper craft, machine knitting and generally any craft that looks like fun.
