FESA update: The jersey dress

By Sølvi Elise | 04/11/2011
Burda Knit Dress in Teal

I am almost finished with my corduroy pants, but I have a little left on them. I did however make this jersey dress last week. I had it cut out a while back, and when I finally started to sew, it was quite easy to make. The pattern, BurdaStyle 05-2010-103, is originally for woven fabric, but it worked fine with the rayon jersey I had got on sale earlier this year. I allowed myself to get some knits when they were on sale, because I didn´t have any in my stash, and I knew I wanted to make some knit tops and dresses. They are so comfy during…

The anniversary outfit: Pattern Review for Simplicity 1782 and Burda 02-2011-107

By Sølvi Elise | 02/11/2011

Eight years ago, my darling and I met at a Halloween party. I can´t believe how time flies! So, to celebrate, we went out on a dinner date on Monday (yummy Italian food), and I got a chance to wear two of my newest creations, a 40´s top I´ve been dying to make since I got the pattern, and a pencil skirt in my new favorite color! I got the pattern for this top at midvalecottage, and I was initially drawn towards view no. 2 with the balloon style sleeves, but I chose to make view no. 3 first, mostly because that was what I had enough fabric…

Pattern Review: BurdaStyle Magazine 03-2010-101A aka The Summer Coat.

BurdaStyle 03-2010-101A

Back in May, after getting the flu from biking on a chilly night, I decided I needed a summer coat. Unfortunately, I lost my sewing mojo over the summer, and so this coat wasn´t finished until last week. The idea of this coat is to have something to throw over thin summer dresses in those cold summer nights we have up here in May and June. After taking these photos, I discovered that the coat is wearable in October as well, although teamed with some layers underneath, hat, scarf and mittens! 🙂 My initial idea was to make it out of linen, or something neutral colored, but when…

Holiday preparations

By Sølvi Elise | 26/10/2011

Mrs. Matryoshka Christmas is drawing closer, and this year I´ve signed up for Tilly´s Crafty Christmas Club, so I´ll post my holiday crafting over there. But I´ll give you a sneak peek of the first ornament I made this year, a felt Matryoshka doll. I used an excellent tutorial made by Danielle Wilson at my Sparkle. It came together really quick and easy, and I´d love to make some more! I do have other felt ornaments planned as well, because last year I treated myself to the Christmas Ornament PDF tutorals from Alicia Paulson at Posie gets Cozy, and I have only made a few of those. They are…

Meet the newest member of the family…

By Sølvi Elise | 25/10/2011

…the Singer 676G! I am sooo excited about the newest edition to the fleet. This baby was born in 1964, and has been taken care of by a very knowledgeable gentleman who has given her some TLC, so she is in mint condition.   Not only is she a beauty, she produces the most perfect straight and zig-zag seams, and has lots of other functions I haven´t really tried out yet. I have recently learned that all Singer machines produced before 1981 have slant shank foot holders to screw- on, but fortunately, they have made a converter (that I have ordered), which enables me to make use of the snap-…

Hi there! I´m Sølvi Elise. Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. This is a space where I share my craft projects  and thoughts and ideas concerning handmade in a consumerist world.

I live in Oslo, Norway where I use my spare time stitching up my own wardrobe. So far, I´d say that 80 % of my closet is filled with me-mades. I also have an interest in historical sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, leatherwork, tablet weaving, rigid heddle loom- weaving, cocktails, jewelry making, makramÊ, shoe making, drawing, paper craft, machine knitting and generally any craft that looks like fun.
