The skirt that isn´t a Beignet.

It´s high waisted.  It´s got buttons down the front,  it´s knee length.  But.  It´s not a Beignet.  Can you believe it?

Burda

I wanted to make a A-line version of the Beignet, so I turned to old trusded Burda magazine and there I stumled upon pattern number 03-2009-111. It´s not lined, and it´s only got four pattern pieces.  It is supposed to be A-line, although my version isn´t really representative for that style. I think my fabric choice, a stretchy denim material, wasn´t perfect for that, but I like it anyways.

Although I didn´t think of it at the time I chose the material and the wooden buttons, I must have had Tilly´s 1970´s vibe Beignet drifting around in my subconsciousness, because the finished result are quite similar.

Now to the obvious question about this pattern, how is it in comparison to Beignet? Well, it´s pretty straight forward, this skirt. There are two versions of it in the magazine, one with a lot more pockets, and a safari feel to it, and one less detailed. Mine was supposed to have two small patch pockets as well, but they were somewhat  “in the way” of the buttons, so I omitted them.

Compared to Beignet, this pattern is easier,   in that it has fewer parts and there is no lining. But I like the waist shaping of the Biegnet better than on this.

One stupid thing I did, was to omit the interfacing on the facings. I don´t know why I did that, maybe I thought that the denim was sturdy enough? Well, it wasn´t. So, the buttonholes aren´t quite right.

Lesson learned (again): NEVER omit interfacing!

I leave you with some pictures from my summer working space, and a view of my first version of Sorbetto:

SorbettoSorbetto numero uno.

View

What you see is the old harbor of Skiringsalkaupangen. The first town of Norway. You can´t see the harbor, you say? That´s becaouse it isn´t there anymore. The sea level was 3, 5 meters higher back then.   It is a nice view, though…

Great Burda skirt! The photo is fantastic, looks like a fashion magazine. 🙂

Cute skirt and a lovely photo. I like the “at work” picture too. I am being really stupid here but did the sea level drop naturally? And is it still going down. I studied geography A level so really shouldn’t be so clueless. x

Haha, Debbie, you´re not being stupid, it´s just that in certain parts of (for instance) Norway the land rises quite dramatically much in comparison to other places. This has to do with erosion due to the ice age. So the land rises gradually still. Here´s some wiki-info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moraine 🙂

I would have thought it was a beignet from the photo! Very cute. I love the wooden buttons.

Thank you! I agree with you, it is quite Beignet- like! 🙂
