Books!

After tackling the wrap dress, realizing I should have done a FBA and reading about a lot of great literature about sewing I decided to indulge in a shopping splurge at Amazon.co.uk today.

To give you a reason for this book- buying craze, I´ll show you a pic of my library of craft books:

My crafty library

You see? (or you´ll probably not see, as it´s dark and mostly in Swedish or Norwegian) 99 percent of the books are about quilting, knitting, crochet or weaving. The only sewing related book I have, is actually the book Mønsterforming, and that book is basically a pattern construction reference guide.

I ordered no less than six (6!) sewing related books. My excuse? I want to get better at sewing… I want to learn more about fitting, I ´d like to experiment with more advanced techniques, and I´d like to learn more about different types of fabrics. So I got the following books today:

The Perfect Fit: A Practical Guide to Adjusting Sewing Patterns for a Professional Finish by Creative Publishing International

Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire Shaeffer

Fit for Real People: Sew Great Clothes Using ANY Pattern (Sewing for Real People) by Pati Palmer et al

Claire Shaeffer’s Fabric Sewing Guide by Claire Shaeffer

“Vogue” Sewing – revised and updated by Crystal McDonald et al

Sewing with Sergers: The Complete Handbook for Overlock Sewing by Gail Brown

I have heard many good words about most of these books, and I am looking forward to get my own impression of them. Although I can get a lot of the information I need off the internet, I love books, so I can´t wait to get them all in the mail over the next couple of weeks!

You may or may not know that I´m saving up for a serger, so that´s why I bought the last little book. Just to get a clearer idea of all the things I could use a serger for! 🙂

So, do you have any favorite sewing books that you can´t live without?

Yay! I am also waiting for The Perfect Fit! Just ordered on Saturday. I have the couture sewing one and really like it (particularly the history section!) and live by Fit for real people for bust fitting especially!

    Yay books!

oooh don’t you just love new books?!
i “treated” myself to some sewing books for my SSS endeavours, two are on your list
the vogue sewing book & schaffers couture sewing.
both are paper back so much easier to handle than say hardback readers digest.
    enjoy 🙂

Yes, the thought of paperback was very appealing to me too, it´s so much easier to use “in action”! 🙂

Ha ha! We must be on the same wavelength with our decluttering of clothes and stocking up on books. I actually borrowed two — Perfect Fit and Sewing with Sergers — from the library (along with many others), I usually borrow them first and decide what I can’t live without. Looking forward to seeing how these manifest in your sewing!
