Ramblings on lace, trains and dresses.

This in one of those days that just turns out completely different than you think. I was off in the morning to take the train to Stockholm. I needed to go to the Norwegian embassy, because I need a new passport. My old passport doesn’t expire until 2012, but I am going to New York (yaaaay! Museums! Art! Fabric shooooppiiiing!!!!), and I suspect my old handwritten non-electronic passport wouldn’t take me anywhere outside of Europe. And absolutely not through the hermetically sealed  borderline of the US (no offense, americans ;-)).

Version 1, 2 and 3. What should I do?

But, the train I was going to take, and the next one were full, and after embarking the third train, I realized that I wouldn’t make it back home again in time for work. So I left the train station and went to take the bus back home. The bus had just left, so I thought I´d go get some notions I´ve been missing for a while (buttons and interfacing, in case you´re wondering).

Version 4 and 5. It is so difficult to decide…

Well inside the fabric store, I spotted some red lace. Having just read and envied Gertie´s adventures into red lace wonderland, I started to envision a little piece myself. A friend of mine turns thirty this January, and I have promised her a dress as a birthday gift. She saw my Rosie dress, and loved the style and especially the back of it, so I am thinking about making a dress in a similar style.

I have New Look 6723 in mind (and in my stash), so I think I will be using the front bodice from the black sleeveless version, and then the back bodice from the Rosie dress to make a little piece for her. I can´t decide on the color choices, though. If red is the way to go, or if I should choose a more toned down black or silver.

So I need your help!  I can´t decide which fabric combination I like the most, so if you would be so kind and share your thoughts on this, I´d be very happy! Thank you!

Hi I’ve seen Gertie’s post on her lace dress too. I have to say I like the red lace with the red fabric underneath. The dress sounds lovely. I have some lace myself lying around, but its yellow. Not sure what to do with it.

Oh, red, red, red! Love it! Every woman needs a red dress in her closet. Version 4 is my favourite, followed by #5. 🙂

    Thanks guys for your opinions!
It´s so difficult to choose! But one of the red options is probably most striking – i agree.

I’m liking that last combination a lot. That and the first one of red on blue, which I wouldn’t think would work, but does. And I’m sure it looks purple from a distance, which is a bonus in my book.

I kind of like the red on red one. I think she is going to love it, how sweet of you to make your friend a WHOLE DRESS for a gift; you are a good friend!

I like the red on red one the most, followed by the silver/grey combo. I’m not so keen on the gold underlay.
