On my sewing table: Another pair of high waisted trousers, the Vest AND a floral tuxedo shirt

I am writing this in the middle of the night, because I can´t sleep, as I´m coughing like you wouldn´t believe it. I am too tired to actually produce something (AKA sew). So what else to do than give you a little update on what I´m up to next? (I am actually trying to exhaust myself so much that I just pass out on the couch.Whether or not writing a blog post can be considered tiresome, is not completely clear.)

The Vest. Stil

1. The Vest. This is the first project I´m making based on my newly bought book: The Perfect Fit. The pattern I´m using is from the 1970s, and is one size too small, so to adjust for that I used Gertie´s tips for adjusting vintage patterns. In addition to that I have made a FBA on the princess seams. Works like a charm! I had to put this project aside though, as it calls for 9 cute little buttons, and I didn´t have any that would fit.

A close up of my more or less neat little tucks. Isn’t the fabric adorable, though?

2. The floral tuxedo shirt. Alright, so this project is quite spontaneous. It´s not originally a part of My Grand Plan. Actually, I came up with this last night (I couldn´t sleep then either). It´s from the beloved Burda 01-2008 (an issue I finally got a hold of just this autumn! Yay!). Pattern number 106. I´m making it out of a floral fabric I got from a charity shop a couple of months ago. I thought it would be fun to take such a classic cut shirt, and make it out of something completely unexpected. Time will tell if it´s a good idea or not… I made a FBA on this one too, and I´ve taken it in a couple of centimeters in the waist.

Our dining table… Making some adjustments to the pattern, drinking my tea.

3. My darling and I were falling behind on Mad Men, and decided to catch up tonight, so I needed a project that didn´t involve the sewing machine. I wasn´t really up for knitting or crocheting, so I decided to make a muslin for these lovely trousers (have you seen stitchywitch`s version? They are gorgeous!). These do actually have an even higher waist than my Kate Trousers, and I´m looking forward to stitching them up. I made a crotch depth adjustment, so that they would fit me better, and I might also add some centimeters to the length.

Hopefully, I´ll get some sleep now, if not, I might go crazy in some etsy shop or something, just to keep my mind off coughing. Wish me luck, and thanks for reading! 🙂

Oh, those little tucks are lovely! I’ve been very attracted to that type of effect lately…tucks, pleats, gathers…all those little details we can do by folding fabric in different ways and stitching it in place.

That Vogue pattern is giving me ideas! I love the high-waisted skirt with the leopard top especially. Hmmmm.

Yes, I´m also very much into tucks and such. It makes the garments come alive! GO for the skirt – top combo, they are great. 🙂

I love some high waisted trousers. And so sorry you had to cough so hard you couldn’t sleep. I hope you’ll feel better again soon!

multiple comments, i’ve been away so long! i LOVE the print on the top, it’s so adorable and your pintucks look perfect!! the kate trousers are fantastic as well, now i really have kate trouser envy! lastly, as for UFOs, i have a dress i was making for sarah’s june & june project that got scrapped and won’t be rescued (i decided i really don’t like the lining fabric or the top fabric!), a pair of highwaisted sailor style trousers are shoved under my bed cause the legs were waaay out of control and the hips too small and finally, i’ve stashed a black pair of ruby shorts somewhere because they were too small and i’m too pale for black shorts. so don’t worry about scrapping a dress, i say go for it!

Ah! Good to know there are others out there with some unfinished stuff just laying around. I have now cut the dress in half, so there is no going back!

  5. […] some of the most observant of you might recall this shirt. I showed it to you as a work in progress in November. But due to button issues, Christmas, procrastination and other unfortunate events […]
