I am a colourlover

During summer and early autumn different bloggers have been talking about color and palettes and which colors that looks most flattering on them. Tonight, I was sketching on some ideas for my autumn/winter sewing, and when I finished the drawing, I saw to my surprise that it mainly consisted of five colors. Black, navy, red, gray and white.

The fact that it was these specific colors didn’t surprise me – I have many items of those colors in my closet. It was the colors that I hadn’t included that I started to think about.

For the last five years, or so, my wardrobe have consisted of both the navy-red-black-white-gray combination AND a dusty-pink-grayish-green-brown-violet line.

Now, when I was planning for this autumn it occurred to me that I was actually thinking of coordination. Do this jacket go with more than one other item on the list? Can I wear this pants with some of the other pieces?

For many of you this may seem like the only logical way to think, but for me, this is a brand new way of thinking. In the past  I have been making stuff using the ooo-that´s-sooo-pretty!- method. Although admittedly fun, it´s not very effective.

I have never thought about my wardrobe as one matching unity before. Maybe that is why I have always felt like I have a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear! I am very excited about my newfound knowledge, and hopefully I will stick to my plan.

The plan consist of 21(!) different items. I probably wont be making them all, off course, but we can call it a wish list… or something. Surprisingly many of the items are practical, all are pretty, and non-intentionally, all coordinate! To me, that´s just amazing. The only thing lacking on my list is a super-warm yet chic winter coat.  It´s difficult to find just the right pattern for a jacket I know I will have to wear from late December through March. Its main feature is to keep me warm, but it would be really nice if it looked good as well… I have been going through every Burda Mag since December 2005, but I´m still not certain. If anyone have a tip about such an item, please let me know!

So people, how do you reason when it comes to color and sewing? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Wow! What an awesome wish list! My main colours for my wardrobe are red, purple, green, pink, and black.

For a winter coat, have you thought about the Lady Grey Coat from Colette patterns?

Ooo, that are some bold color choices, Sarah! Nice!

I love Lady Grey, and I would really like to join in on the fun over at Gertie´s, but for these winters up here, it´s too cold. I need something that is knee-length, possibly a hidden zipper closure, I ´d love a hood, and full sleeves. And possibly some elegancy on top of all that…. Wish me luck! 🙂

SO inspiring! Can’t wait to see what you whip up. I need to start thinking of colors, too.

Your SSS outfits, like MMM, are totally fab, btw. In fact, I just might have to move into your closet.

Thank you Ali, you can, off course, move into my closet, just beware that it´s quite crammed in there, not only with clothing and shoes, but a violin and a badminton racket as well..

[…] with more loose planning, and manageable deadlines, it also fits quite well in with my previously documented love of sewing in one distinct palette of color! A hint for my palette theme: […]
