2012. A review.

This is just a little year-in-review from me. I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who reads this blog, and especially to all of you who take the time to comment. And I want to wish you all the best of times now that we are approaching the holiday season! Have fun and enjoy the holidays wherever you are!

The plaid half-circle skirt
I´ve been wearing this skirt and cowl A LOT! I just love the little sparkle the yellow cowl gives any outfit on a dark winter day, and the skirt couldn´t be more cozy.

Did you know that this blog has existed, in one form or another since November 2005? That´s a little more than seven years. For the first couple of years I struggled to find a blog format that suited me-  What was I to talk about? In which language should I write? In November 2008 I decided to start writing about my crafty endeavors and related things. I´m glad I did!

Simplicity
One of my few vintage pattern makes this year. This dress have become a favorite!

In 2011 I single-handedly made, either by knitting, sewing or by crocheting, over 80 garments for myself and others. I remember reading other peoples blogs and their year-in-review-posts, thinking WOW, she made 30 beautiful garments. That´s so many things! And then I counted my own makes. 80. An embarrassingly high number for a person who wants to pursue a sustainable lifestyle! 🙂 I guess 2011 was the year that took my handmade lifestyle to another level, and I was so filled with inspiration and desire for new makings that I just made and made and made some more stuff. Resulting in a packed closet. Again! One of the ideas of making my own clothes,  back in 2008 and 2009 was for me to have less stuff, not more. I guess things got a little out of line somewhere. 😉 It prepared me for a 2012 filled with me-made clothing, though,  and in the beginning of  this year I gave the blog a new design as well.

The white trousers from BurdaStyle 09-20011-107
These two items saw me through most of summer.

And so we are reaching the end of 2012, a year that for me held in it some different events:

  • We moved! I am so happy that we have moved back to Norway. Oslo is, work-wise  a much better place to live, both for me and my man, and we are thoroughly enjoying spending time with old friends, and settling into our new apartment.
  • I finally had to face the fact that my neck and back were suffering, I stopped knitting altogether for six months, I cut back on sewing and computer time, I´ve stopped using big handbags (I only use backpacks and/or tiny purses) and I started to work out more. It´s finally working! My back is getting better. Woohoo! 🙂
  • I cut my finger in October. I would´ve never have thought it to take so much time to heal, and at the same time I am in awe over how fast it heals, if that makes any sense at all. Cutting my finger lead to more no- sew time, though.

MMM´12: Day One
My favorite cropped jacket and trousers. Wear the trousers all the time, and did so with the jacket too from May until mid-October, when the temperatures got lower. I´d love to make a winter version of it, though!

All in all: 2012 has been a good year for me, although this ol´blog has been suffering from it. But I guess that´s life. Not everything can be squeezed into the restricted time we have. The fun part of having less time to sew is that I now actually need things, and I do look forward to making some new work clothing. I also would love to make more detailed garments,  garments that take time and consideration. I really appreciate the detail work, and I have some grand plans and ideas for things I´d like to make in 2013. So stay tuned for more sewing fun in 2013!

Until next time: Happy Holidays!

You are so talented, Solvi! You were one of the people who inspired me to knit 🙂 I am so relieved that your hand is better – eek! That was scary!

Happy festive season to you too! And even though you may have been a little less active, creating and sewing-wise, you have firmly remained one of the most inspirational and joyful bloggers out there! I’m so pleased that your back and finger are on the mend and that you are finding fun and balance after a crazy year with the upheaval of moving. Can’t wait to follow all your exciting endeavours in 2013!

I love the outfits you made this year, they all look so stylish and chic. I am glad to hear you are enjoying your new home and the back is better. I have had to give up big bags for a similar reason. 🙂 I always enjoy reading your blog, take care :0 xx
